We Went to Church on Saturday!
Saturday started with the look of a beautiful, beautiful day and it got even better wh
en I asked Bill what he wanted to do with it. He actually said to me - "we can do one of your letterbox thingies." When I got over the initial shock of that comment, I hurriedly pulled out the stack of day trips that I tend to accumulate in case any such occasion should occur and we chose to travel to Wayne County to do NJCarole's Equinunk Church series. So I gathered letterboxing supplies and we hopped into the little red car to drive the 168 miles to the first box. After only one venture off course, we made it to the first box The Equinunk Charge-Pine Mill UMC Letterbox. Here I quic
kly located the box behind a shed and walked around the car to find Bill poised and ready to MOVE! The foot tapping had already begun - uh, oh, I was in for a day of sighs, frowns, and glares, I could tell! How could anyone NOT love our little hobby. I just don't understand.
We moved on to the next church Equinunk Charge-Equinunk UMC Letterbox , which I remembered was the sight where Lightnin' Bug wrenched his shoulder last year. Unfortunately for me, after being pricked and jagged by the shrubs around this little church, I cam to the conclusion that this box was missing. The good news was that at least I poked with my walking stick and came away with my shoulders intact.
So we moved on to the next one Equinunk Charge-Union UMC where I saw one of the
biggest white pines I have ever seen, it is towards the back of this picture. I also got to poke around in a graveyard, one of my favorite things to do. Old headstones are the best! Unfortunately, Bill was not in a tombstone browsing mood either, so we quickly scurried to the next box, Equinunk Charge-Braman UMC.....scurried so quickly that we missed the church. And after driving 168 miles one way to find this series of boxes, my chauffeur was not willing to backtrack two miles to look for it again. Now my sighing, frowning and glaring had begun.OK, deep breath, and
move onto the last box, Equinunk Charge-Lookout UMC. Another graveyard and a much happier Bill because he knew that this was the last box. I didn't have the nerve to tell him that there were a few more in the area but they required a bit of a walk to find them. I quickly located my little treasure and joined Bill in our chariot to meander our way back home. He decided to take a different route back so we didn't have to view super highways and turnpike rest stops and Bill was happy doing what he likes to do - drive.
