I had had a full day and it was time to head back to my campsite at Shawnee State Park for the second night of my weekend. When I had checked in at the park office, the park ranger had warned me that it was pheasant season and that the hunting area actually included some land very close to the campgrounds. As I was pulling into the campground, I stopped to take a few pictures of the autumn color below me. These two pictures were taken around the group of hunters who were hanging out along the tree line. I didn't want their guns and orange to be in my pictures so I skipped over them.
As I was ready to get in my car to drive to my site, I noticed these five pheasants right beside me. Hmmm, hunters at the bottom of the hill, pheasants at the top. I wonder who was the smarter species here?
After I had settled myself in for the night, I played with my camera self timer and here I am! I have to mention that I owe Bill a big thank you for saving me this evening. The temperature was 32 degrees when I got up the next morning and it was a little cold outside. Bill had suggested that I bring our little electric heater along since I usually get campsites which have electricity and I did end up turning the heater on in the middle of the night. My sleeping bag kept me toasty warm but my face was freezing and the heater was the perfect solution. Fortunately for me, the bathrooms were also heated so when I took my shower the next morning, I was quite comfortable.
