The past weekend turned out to be absolutely gorgeous, I don't know how many more of those that we will have during this autumn. I used it to do some boxing (of course!) on my way to Philadelphia for the dreaded but much anticipated visit to Jefferson Neurosurgical. On the way I stopped in Oaks and found the Narnia Lamp Post at the James Audobon location. It was a beautiful area to walk in along the Schuylkill River. Because it was very early in the morning, I couldn't actually check out the buildings there but I did successfully find the box. My next stop was at the Philadelphia Art Museum to look for the Persistence of Winky. It is amazing that this box is still safely hidden. When I was there, there were ground crews everywhere and this box is actually within a few feet of the museum itself. I was extremely happy that I found it because it was actually scheduled to be removed when the Salvador Dali exhibit left. I had contacted Winky prior to visiting and she told me that she would let it there for another week for me. Thanks, Winky!
After these two visits which turned out to happen a lot quicker than I thought they would, I still had a lot of time before my appointment so I headed to the Monastery letterbox. Silly me - when I saw that it was on grounds maintained by the Fairmount Park, I assumed that it was nearby. Wrong! It was about ten miles and a world away. I went from the urban box of Winky's to being out in the middle of nowhere along the Wissahickon Creek. Another beautiful area though. I found Monastery and moved along a bit in search of Body Parts but decided that the walk was going to take me too far away from my car and since I was on a timetable, I turned back. Maybe I will take that walk on my next visit to Jefferson next month.
On my way back into Philadelphia, I thought about looking for Nathan's LOVE letterbox. I found the correct area where it was hidden but parking seemed to be a major project and since my time was running out, I figured I had better get to the hospital. Once again, maybe next month!
I guess it might be good to mention the reason for my trip to Philadelphia was actually my doctor visit. Unfortunately, there has been no change in my condition and I am scheduled for an angiogram on December 19. This is a test where they will insert a tube through my leg to travel to the artery break at the base of my skull. It will help them to determine whether surgery will help my condition or whether we should just continue to wait it out and hope that it heals itself. If surgery is decided on, they will probably do it the next day. Some parts of me hopes that they do it, just so I can have an end to this uncertainty but on the other hand, I am not really thrilled about the prospect of actual surgery. We will see what happens though.
