I am more of a mountain girl than a beach girl but one thing I do enjoy about being near the ocean is lighthouses. The Ponce de Leon Inlet lighthouse is one of my favorites and we have visited it many times and climbed it a couple of times. It isn't too far from our house so we can enjoy it often. So, when we started out for a letterbox in New Smyrna Beach, I was more than thrilled to see a totally different view of this lighthouse from the other side of the inlet. We were in search of a Seminole Clan Series box in Smyrna Dunes Park, a park that is only about twenty minutes from home and very near our favorite beach restaurant, Breakers, and we had no idea that it existed.
The trail in the park consists of a long, long boardwalk which took us over lots of sand. At one point, after we had walked about a half mile, it led up over some dunes and when we came down, we had some spectacular views of the ocean.
We also had some wonderful views of the lighthouse.
We did find the box nicely tucked under the boardwalk but the even better find was this boardwalk trail and even Bill was very impressed. This is why I letterbox.
