I have been wanting to box in the Baltimore area for a long time now and I was so lucky to have two friends who were available to spend the day with me there. Blue Delft and Royal Fish live much closer to the area than I do so we agreed to meet at Patapsco State Park in Elkridge MD later in the morning than I usually like to get started. But it was no real problem since I planned a few stops of my own on the way down. What I hadn't anticipated was the very heavy fog that was present when I started out about five in the morning. The trip to York county was a little scary, I had to go slowly and I constantly strained my vision searching for breaks in the fog. Fortunately, I am very familiar with the roads I was traveling on and made it safely to my first stop in southern York County. The box was a driveby and you were supposed to be able to see a historic chapel near by but I couldn't see it at all, the only thing I saw as I was stamping in was more fog. As I finished up the box and was starting my trip to Maryland, I saw the sun start to rise over the hills and the colors and the beauty was a total reward for all of the fear that I had from the drive. The sun quickly made a total appearance and banished the rest of the haze and started what turned out to be a perfect boxing weather day.
My next stop was in Maryland at another driveby but one that I have been wanting to get for years. It is absolutely amazing that the Maryland Black Eyed Susan box has been around since 2004. It is located very close to the ruins below which are right off the road. Great job of finding a lasting hiding spot to Painterly 46R.
This beautiful bridge was in my vision the whole time I was stamping in and I was again grateful that the fog had dissipated so that I could enjoy the site.
I picked up a few more drivebys before meeting the ladies at the park. Our first box promised lots of intrigue as we hiked through the old grounds of St. Mary's College in an area which is rumored to be haunted. I have to admit that the most haunting thing I encountered that day was these steep steps which started our journey.
As we approached the ruins where the box is hidden, these two doe decided to see what we were up to.
The Abandoned University Chapel was in our sights looking beautiful and serene and not at all scary.
Royal Fish and Blue Delft were not the least bit intimidated.
It is so sad that people think it is ok to destroy old artifacts with their graffiti. I do appreciate street art but not when it is on historic places and there was a lot to be found along this trail.
We next meandered into the park itself and had to cross this bridge across the Patapsco River to capture several more boxes.
We found all that we searched for. Here Royal Fish stamps in.
Blue Delft took her turn also.
Our last stop of the day was to find a box by one of my favorite planters, Wood Thrush. She is originally from the area that I now live in and she has made me very happy with the boxes that she has scattered around our area. I was now delighted to find one in her current stomping grounds which couldn't have been more lovely than this time of the year with the trees all in bloom.
I usually box alone and am quite happy to do that but I have to admit that I definitely enjoyed the good company that I had on this beautiful spring day.
